Ben Williams: Michael, thank you for taking the time to share your story with us. Can you start by telling us about your personal journey as an immigrant?
Michael Shvartsman: Of course, thank you for having me. My journey as an immigrant began when my parents moved to the United States from Eastern Europe. It was a challenging transition, leaving behind their family and familiar surroundings to start anew in a different country. The language barrier was significant, and adapting to a new culture was equally challenging. However, I was determined to make the most of the opportunities available here and pursued my education and career with great dedication.
Ben Williams: What motivated you to dedicate yourself to supporting the immigrant community in Los Angeles?
Michael Shvartsman: My own experiences as an immigrant greatly influenced my decision to support the immigrant community in Los Angeles. I understand the struggles and obstacles that immigrants face because I have lived through them myself. There is a strong desire within me to give back and help others navigate the same challenges. Los Angeles is a vibrant city with a diverse immigrant population, and I saw a great need for support in areas such as education, employment, and social integration.

Ben Williams: Can you share some of the initiatives you have been involved in to support immigrants in LA?
Michael Shvartsman: One of the key initiatives I’ve been involved in is partnering with local organizations to provide educational resources and language training for immigrants. Education is a powerful tool that can open doors to better opportunities, and helping immigrants improve their language skills is essential for their integration and success. We also work on job placement programs, helping immigrants find employment that matches their skills and qualifications. Additionally, we offer legal assistance and advocacy to ensure that immigrants are aware of their rights and can navigate the legal system effectively.
Ben Williams: What is your vision for the future of immigrant support?
Michael Shvartsman: My vision is to create a more inclusive and supportive environment where immigrants can thrive and contribute to the community. This involves continuing to expand our educational and employment programs, as well as fostering a sense of belonging and community among immigrants. I believe that by providing the necessary resources and support, we can help immigrants achieve their full potential and positively impact the broader society. It’s about creating opportunities and breaking down barriers so that everyone has a chance to succeed.
Ben Williams: How do you think communities can come together to support immigrants more effectively?
Michael Shvartsman: Communities can support immigrants more effectively by fostering inclusivity and understanding. It’s important to create spaces where immigrants feel welcomed and valued. This can be achieved through community events, cultural exchange programs, and collaborative initiatives between local organizations and businesses. Additionally, providing access to resources such as language classes, job training, and legal assistance can make a significant difference. It’s about building a network of support that addresses the diverse needs of the immigrant population.

Ben Williams: What advice would you give to immigrants who are currently facing challenges in their new environment?
Michael Shvartsman: My advice to immigrants facing challenges is to stay resilient and seek out support networks. It’s essential to connect with local organizations that can provide resources and guidance. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and take advantage of educational and employment opportunities. Building a support system, whether through community groups or mentoring programs, can also be incredibly beneficial. Remember that every challenge is an opportunity for growth, and perseverance will lead to success.
Ben Williams: Finally, what message would you like to convey to the immigrant community?
Michael Shvartsman: My message is one of hope and encouragement. You are a valuable part of this country, and your contributions matter. Embrace the opportunities available to you and don’t be discouraged by challenges. There are many people and organizations dedicated to supporting you, and together we can create a brighter future. Stay resilient, stay connected, and know that you have the strength to overcome any obstacles.
Ben Williams: Thank you, Michael, for sharing your inspiring story with us. Your dedication to the immigrant community is truly commendable.
Michael Shvartsman: Thank you. It has been a pleasure to share my journey and commitment. I hope that my experiences can inspire others to support and uplift the immigrant community.
